Acción internacional sobre el Calentamiento Global IGLO es un proyecto de la Asociación de Centros de Ciencia y Tecnología, ASTC, en ocasión del Año Internacional Polar, IPY, (de marzo 2007 a marzo 2009), diseñado para contribuir con la conciencia pública respecto del calentamiento global y las formas en que las regiones polares influeyen en la Tierra, el clima, los ecosistemas y la sociedad humana. Misión, metas, otros programas planeados.(inglés) El contenido del *Juego de recursos IGLO* Como parte de este programa, se desarrolla un "juego de recursos IGLO", para el que se solicita la participación amplia de museos y centros de ciencia en el globo. Walter Staveloz explica: Para asegurar que IGLO es un producto de nuestro campo, para nuestro campo, en ocasión de IPY, creemos que nuestra primera tarea es unir esfuerzos para sobrepasar lo que hemos hecho bien,  individualmente.  Por tango, IGLO se basará primero en el uso de un *juego de recursos*, que contendrá un número de productos de una combinación de medios, dirigidos a diferentes públicos meta, considerados por un grupo de expertos como las mejores prácticas en el campo. Es por ello que queremos conocer recursos existentes y en planificación, de la Investigación Polar y sobre el Clima, que provengan de diferentes fuentes. Recursos que valdría la pena agrupar en una lista corta y ponerla a disposición de a cualquiera que quieran ser partícipe del proyecto. Algunos de los principios que guían este trabajo: Hay tanto allí afuera, dentro y fuera del campo, que no necesitamos re-inventar la rueda. Deberíamos desarrollar una lista que podamos manejar. Queremos tener una lista de productos que se dirijan a los diferentes públicos. Deberíamos buscar elementos que permitan acciones simultáneas en todo el mundo, al menos en cinco momentos del periodo. Necesitamos una o dos sugerencias de experimentos científicos para la ciudadanía mundial. Los productos deben poderse descargar, en su mayoría, pra que las instituciones más remotas y pequeñas puedan participar. Habrá que ver qué hace falta diseñar para inventarlo desde su raíz a través de la cooperación de IGLO. Varias discusiones se han llevado a cabo en talleres preparativos y discusiones en línea, en las que se enfatiza la necesidad de tomar en consideración las diferencias culturales y de idiomas, para romper barrreras de acceso al *Juego de recursos*.  Es muy difícil traducir todo a 50 idiomas diferentes, así es que debemos ser innovadores y una de las primeras acciones debería ser que se aceptaran propuestas de todo el mundo, en su idioma original. Por ello invitamos a la RED a considerar la posibilidad de contribuir con sugerencias para el *Juego de recursos*, basado en los productos locales, aunque no estén traducidos al inglés. Sin embargo, se requiere de la validación de la RED, ya que puede ser que no tengamos las destrezas para traducir todo. Este sería un primer paso para que el *Juego de recursos* tenga el sabor internacional que buscamos. Por supuesto que si existe cosas en inglés, también las desplegaremos. La construcción del *Juego de recursos* es un proceso. Tenemos dos talleres programados para finalizar la lista y luego un ejercicio para crear un instrumento comprehensivo en la web, con un motor de búsqueda, que facilite su uso. No se habrá terminado para el inicio del IPY, se continuará evolucionando a través del tiempo, de manera dinámica, invitando a la gente a realizar comentarios y dialogar permanentemente sobre los productos, su utilidad y los dessarrollos que de ahí surjan.

International Action on Global Warming. IGLO, a project of the Association of Science-Technology Centers on the occasion of International Polar Year (March 2007-March 2009), is designed to raise worldwide public awareness about global warming and ways the polar regions profoundly influence Earth's climate, ecosystems, and human society. MISION, GOALS, OTHER PLANNED PROGRAMS The content of the ?IGLO toolkit?. To ensure that IGLO is a product of our field for our field at the occasion of the IPY we think that our first task is to do better together what we are already good at individually. IGLO will be based in the first place on the use of a ?toolkit? that will contain a number of products that is a combination of different media addressing various audiences that are considered by a group of experts as the best practices in our field. That is why we want to hear from various sources what is already existing or planned in the field of Polar Research and Climate issues that would be worth putting in a shortlist to be made available for all those who want to be part of the project. A few principles should guide the work: There is so much good out there, inside and outside our field and we do not have to re-invent the wheel We must come to a shortlist that we can manage We want to have a mix of products that would address a variety of audiences We must look to include elements that allow simultaneous action all over the world at least at five different moments. We need one or two suggestions for a worldwide citizen?s science experiment Products must be downloadable for the biggest part so that the smallest and most remote institution can participate see what is worth creating from scratch because of the IGLO cooperation look into the design of the kit so that it looks like a coherent package.   Several discussion that took place in the previous preparatory workshops and on-line discussions emphasized the need to take into consideration the cultural differences and language issues to break down barriers to access the toolkit. It?s difficult to get everything translated in 50 languages so we have to be innovative and one of the first actions would certainly be to accept proposals from all over the world to be part of the toolkit in the original language.   We thus invite all the networks to consider the possibility of suggesting contributions to the toolkit that are based on local products even if they are not translated in English yet. We need however to have the validation by the network since we might not necessarily have the skills to translate everything. This would be a first step to give the toolkit the international flavor that we are looking for. Of course if things exist in English as well, we will provide them both.   The construction of this toolkit is a process. We have two more workshops scheduled to come to the final list and then an  exercise to create a comprehensive web based instrument with a search engine to allow easy use. It will not be finished by the opening of the IPY but will continue to evolve over time and be as dynamic as possible to invite people to comment and dialogue permanently about the products and their applications and outcomes.

La RED POP, es  una red interactiva que surge de la convocatoria realizada por UNESCO en 1990  y reúne a centros, museos y programas de popularización y divulgación de a  ciencia y la tecnología en América Latina y el Caribe. Funciona  mediantes mecanismos regionales de cooperación que favorecen el intercambio, entrenamietno y aprovechamiento de recursos entre sus miembros.  CIENTEC es miembro fundador y actualmente  ocupa la Dirección Ejecutiva de la RED.

A Red-POP é uma rede interativa que surge de uma  convocação realizada pela UNESCO em 1990 e reúne centros, museus e programas de popularização e divulgação da ciência e tecnologia na América Latina e   Caribe. Funciona  mediante mecanismos regionais de cooperação que favorecem o intercâmbio, o treinamento e o aproveitamento de  recursos entre seus membros.  O CIENTEC é membro fundador e atualmente ocupa a Direção Executiva da RED.
