Dear Colleagues,

The 2009 AAAS Meeting will bring together an exceptional array of speakers addressing some of the most crucial and timely areas of science, technology, and engineering.

The meeting's theme?Our Planet and Its Life: Origins and Futures?recognizes that 2009 is the 200th anniversary of Charles Darwin's birth and the 150th anniversary of the publication of his book, On the Origin of Species by Means of Natural Selection. New understanding of the processes that fascinated Darwin continues to be the focus of intense research 150 years later. Indeed every discipline can demonstrate its own unique evolutionary path and speculate on where it may lead.

Attendees will have the opportunity to choose among a broad range of activities, including nearly 175 symposia, seminars, and career development workshops as well as plenary and topical lectures by some of the world's leading scientists and engineers.

Typically the meeting includes up to 10,000 participants and hundreds of members of the national and international media. It offers unparalleled networking opportunities. More details can be found here online, including how sustainability science, an emerging field, has found a home.

The Annual Meeting reflects tremendous efforts from the AAAS sections, divisions, and committees, which we gratefully acknowledge. Dance Your Ph.D.: The results of the 2009 AAAS/Science dance contest are in. Register for the 2009 AAAS Annual Meeting in Chicago, http://www.aaas.org/meetings, to take part in performances of four winning entries in the AAAS-Science *Dance Your PhD* competition. These videos show the four winners dancing a sexy tango, a soulful modern dance solo, an exuberant mix of breakdance and ballet, and a folkdance-like piece. The contest was organized by the Gonzo Scientist, a.k.a. Science Contributing Correspondent John Bohannon.

La RED POP, es  una red interactiva que surge de la convocatoria realizada por UNESCO en 1990  y reúne a centros, museos y programas de popularización y divulgación de a  ciencia y la tecnología en América Latina y el Caribe. Funciona  mediantes mecanismos regionales de cooperación que favorecen el intercambio, entrenamietno y aprovechamiento de recursos entre sus miembros.  CIENTEC es miembro fundador y actualmente  ocupa la Dirección Ejecutiva de la RED.

A Red-POP é uma rede interativa que surge de uma  convocação realizada pela UNESCO em 1990 e reúne centros, museus e programas de popularização e divulgação da ciência e tecnologia na América Latina e   Caribe. Funciona  mediante mecanismos regionais de cooperação que favorecem o intercâmbio, o treinamento e o aproveitamento de  recursos entre seus membros.  O CIENTEC é membro fundador e atualmente ocupa a Direção Executiva da RED.
